NAMIBIA – Free range hunting

NAMIBIA

Our Lodge is located in the midst of the rolling hills of the Khomas Hochland, only 75 km north-west of Namibia’s capital, Windhoek. Upon your arrival at the International Airport, we will take you through Windhoek, to your hunting destination. The two-hour drive from the airport to the lodge leads you through a spectacular mountain scenery with breathtaking views and a great abundance of game along the route.

10 500 ha of untamed land surround the attractive Lodge with the characteristic red roofs of the ranch buildings and the cozy thatched bungalows. Here, in the endless, silent expanse, beautiful nature and tranquility of the African bush, you will quickly leave the stress of your everyday life behind, relax and start your holiday.

The hunting area forms part of the Khomas Hochland Conservancy (KHC), a conglomerate of several ranches to form about 150 000 ha of excellent hunting area. Since its inception in 1992, the KHC strives to maintain a healthy, rich and diverse wildlife population that is able to roam freely without restrictions imposed by high game fences.

One of the gems in our area is a healthy, natural population of the Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, promising an exciting and challenging hunt but you can also find Oryx, Greater Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Warthog, Blesbok, Springbok, Klipspringer, steenbok,..

The KHC strives to protect and improve the fauna, flora and the natural habitat of the area, promote the settlement of formerly native animals, stabilize the populations of endangered species and bring environmental awareness closer to the local population.

You will hunt in a spectacular and beautiful mountainous landscape, guided by dedicated, qualified hunting guides and trackers. We usually hunt by stalking the game, a great experience also for the less experienced hunter.

Our hunting guides will try to adapt the hunt to the expectations and the physical condition of the hunter as good as possible. We also have very nice hides at water holes for game watching and hunting. We principally don’t hunt from the car. We consider ethical hunting an absolute priority, and we continuously strive to improve our professional service and excellent equipment. Healthy game populations with high trophy quality will ensure an unforgettable hunting experience.

Our hunting areas include, amongst others, a concession in the Kalahari, about three hours’ drive southeast of our lodge. Here you can experience a fascinating hunt on Springbok, Blesbok, Black Wildebeest and Common Impala in the red dunes of the Kalahari – an interesting contrast to the mountain-hunt in the Khomas Hochland.

Furthermore, we have a hunting area specifically for warthogs north of Windhoek, approximately 1 ½ hours’ drive from our lodge.

If you wish to hunt species that don’t occur in our own hunting area, such as Eland, Waterbuck, Impala, Sable etc., you should inform us well in time, so that we can plan for you accordingly.

Thanks to the good cooperation between neighbors and hunting guides, and the resulting large hunting area, we can also take larger hunting groups if desired.

The hunting season runs from 1st February to 30th of November. In February and November hunting can be somewhat limited due to temperatures of up to 40 degrees at times.

Individuality is our motto. A warm welcome and a personal, friendly atmosphere will make you and your companions feel at ease and enjoy your hunting experience from the first to the last day. During meals, at the cozy bar or at the BBQ fire, you can exchange your experiences of the day, talk “hunting” or learn about the country and its’ people, and end the day in good, cheerful company. Families with children are also very welcome on Okatore.

NON HUNTERS

For non-hunting family, children and friends, it is always an exciting and interesting experience to accompany the hunt as you will see a lot of game and even stalk with the hunters in some cases. But we also have a number of facilities and activities for you to enrich your stay at our farm.

We offer expertly guided tours in an open 4×4 jeep on adventurous routes with breathtaking views around the farm. If you prefer to venture by yourself, you can make use of our marked hiking trails or mountain bikes to explore the near vicinity of the Lodge. On a photographic game walk through the bush, you can capture exciting animal scenes, the beautiful kaleidoscope of colors, or simply the fascinating landscape and magnificent views

From specially built hides at waterholes you can observe birds, game and small creatures, take pictures and become absorbed by the silence and tranquility of the African bush.

Other activities may include air rifle shooting, clay pigeon shooting and tennis. In our restaurant we have a pool table, a cozy corner with games, books and a TV. The comfortable loungers at the crystal-clear swimming pool invite you to sunbathe, relax and unwind.

If you would like to combine your hunt with a touristic program, we will gladly help to plan and book your route and accommodation. Namibia is a very travel friendly country, and you can easily travel alone with a rented car.
